California students are required to transfer into NCM a 3-credit accredited Chemistry course and complete or transfer a 1-credit Child Growth & Development course.

FORM 1: NARM Exam Permission Request

All Midwifery (MW) courses and the General Education courses HON248G Cultural Issues, SOC102 Genetic Screening, and HON390G Midwifery Laws and Regulations must be taken within 7 years of graduation.

All clinicals must be within 10 years (except observes prior to enrollment), and the 10 OOH Births must be within 3 years of taking the NARM exam. This is confirmed through the completion of Form #12, Clinical Requirements Summary.

If supervision for a Gen Ed course is submitted but still pending, DO NOT MARK THIS AS COMPLETE. Send an email to cassaundraj@midwiferycollege.edu and request that supervision be expedited for you to request permission to test.

Clinical experience requirements to be completed over a period of two years:

10 Births as Observer, 20 Births as Assistant, 25 Prenatal Exams as Assistant, including 3 Initial Prenatal Exams, 20 Newborn Exams as Assistant, 10 Postpartum Exams as Assistant, 30 Well Woman/Family Planning Exams as Primary Midwife, 20 Initial Prenatal Visits as Primary Midwife, 55 Prenatal Visits as Primary Midwife, 25 Deliveries of Newborn & Placenta as Primary Midwife, 20 Newborn Exams Primary Midwife, 40 Postpartum Mother & Baby Exams Primary Midwife, 5 NARM Continuities of Care, 10 NARM Out of Hospital Births.

If you have been unable to complete a clinical requirement due to COVID restrictions and would like NCM's help in requesting a NARM exemption, please explain your situation in detail here.

Pro Tip: You can prepare your application to NARM while NCM is reviewing your file for permission to take the exam.

It is the student’s responsibility to notify NCM, provide instructions and necessary forms for any special requirements that the student would like NCM to provide to their chosen exam, certification, or licensing organization.

NCM ASM alumni are offered half price when they enroll in NCM's Bachelor's of Science in Midwifery program. CPMs who are graduates of NCM's ASM program need only to complete four courses at 4 credits each and a 24 credit course that is a case review of ten of the student’s births as primary. For some, it is possible to complete these requirements in as little as a year.
